Ways to Create a Home Office in a Small Space

The main reason why many people can’t seem to establish an at-home office is that they have so little space that it just doesn’t make sense to convert half of it into an office. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways you can create a home office in small spaces, including using the floor, under the bed, or even in the laundry room! Here are eight of the smartest ways to carve out a home office in a small space, no matter what room you choose and how little space you actually have available.

1) Convert an unused corner

Although you may think that every inch of your home is getting used, you probably have an area or two that could be converted into office space. In corners or hallways, unused shelves can be put up and serve as the perfect place for bookshelves or desks. The space under your staircase can also be utilized with a table and chair set, especially if the staircase takes up both sides of the room.

Home offices don’t need to take up an entire room!

2) Get creative with storage

If you’re short on space and need to find an alternative way to store your things, consider using decorative houseplants as a storage solution. These plants take up very little room, but can provide a quick fix for the clutter that often occurs around computers and other office equipment.

3) Maximize vertical space

-Put most-used items near the top of bookshelves or cabinets. This makes it easier to grab what you need without having to search through everything else. -Start by storing office supplies, files, and other things at the bottom of any storage space, with folders up on top. That way your supplies are easier to find and quickly accessible when needed.

4) Use an Upcycled Desk

The first step is to find an upcycled desk. These items can be found at most antique shops, second-hand stores, or on Craigslist. An old dresser turned into a desk is perfect for smaller spaces since it maximizes the amount of space available. We also recommend getting shelves attached to the wall underneath your desk where you can store books and files. And don’t forget to make sure your workspace has ample natural light!

5) Decorate with Something Personal

  1. A library – Find the perfect room in your home for your library! Be sure that it’s near your workspace and it has enough room for you to set up bookshelves, as well as workspace. It will serve as a great inspiration space as well!
  2. Built-in shelving – There are many ways you can use built-in shelving for storing your materials and office supplies that makes it easy to have them right at hand and accessible when you need them.

6) Work from Anywhere

Setting up a home office for your small space doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think. Here are creative ways to carve out a workspace that’s tailored just for you. For starters, why not use the corner of your bedroom or kitchen and designate it with walls and shelving? You can also work from the dining room table, porch, garage, and more! Whatever you do, make sure there is plenty of natural light to keep you energized throughout the day.
