The home office can be the perfect setting to get work done, but only if you’re doing it right. Studies have shown that distractions at home can prevent you from being as productive as you could be at the office, which might mean that some of your strategies aren’t working for you. To figure out where I was going wrong, I tried five different tips, and here’s what worked.
1) Create a dedicated home office
-I created a dedicated space in my house and labeled everything so that my mind could know exactly where to find the supplies. -I set up 5 index cards on my desk with sticky notes that I used to keep track of any tasks that needed to be completed during the day. -I setup an ergonomic chair, a laptop stand and hung motivational quotes on the wall.
2) Try a standing desk
One of the easiest ways to boost your productivity is by replacing your sitting desk with a standing desk. You might not be used to standing, but it can help you use more energy and feel more energized because you are moving around more than if you were just sitting. If a standing desk isn’t for you, try these alternatives -Take frequent breaks from your desk, at least every hour
-Don’t answer emails or take phone calls during your break
-Use an app like Freedom to block off time on your calendar when you want to focus on other tasks
3) Set your phone on do not disturb mode
Set your phone on do not disturb mode, which blocks all notifications and alerts, so you can focus on the task at hand. You might want to consider turning off any automatic updates that may pop up from time to time as well. I found this really helped me be more productive!
It also helps if you make sure to stay hydrated, eat healthy snacks (especially protein-packed ones), take breaks when needed and try to take regular brain breaks for a few minutes of something unrelated like reading or watching TV. And finally, when in doubt about what to work on next: ask yourself what one thing would make the biggest difference in your day or week?
4) Keep your calendar separate from your computer
I keep my personal to-do list on my phone so that it can be accessed no matter where I am. It’s one less thing to carry around in my bag, and I can add to it or check off what needs to be done anytime without having to boot up a computer or wait for WiFi. 5) Use different apps for different tasks
