A Cozy Philadelphia Row Home is Packed With Cheery Color Inspiration

Color can transform an entire room and give it an entirely new feel. When you want to spruce up your living space, start with color — inside and out! This row home in Philadelphia showcases both vibrant interior decorating and exterior landscaping that add bright spots of color to the street scene. With vibrant blues, greens, pinks, and purples, this unique residence will make any homebuyer smile. The best part? You can recreate this colorful design without breaking the bank.

The Before & After

Before the transformation, it was a no-go in terms of color. I had to admit I was getting kind of bored with white walls and lots of dark, heavy furniture, Jenny says. But after she traded in her wall color for turquoise, life breathed back into the house. We love that the pops of bright blue mixed with lime green give the space a whimsical feel—perfect for when you’re feeling homesick and need a dose of an old favorite childhood memory!

The Kitchen

Finding new ways to decorate your kitchen can be the perfect way to switch up the décor. As kitchens are central gathering spaces, it’s important that they reflect your personality and taste. It’s a good idea to start by moving any breakables out of the room before you get started, so that you don’t end up with broken vases and dishes at the end of the day. Painting your cabinets can make a small kitchen feel larger and allow you to showcase favorite photos or posters as well.

The Dining Room

Keeping a neutral background throughout the dining room and incorporating touches of color from objects like rugs, flowers, and place settings, not only helped unify the space but also gave a homey feel. When arranging furniture, make sure it has enough space for movement and people to walk around.

The Living Room

The cheery yellow walls and ruby red curtains instantly make this room feel warm and welcoming. There’s plenty of light thanks to the big windows in both the living room and the dining area. The low-slung sofa offers plenty of seating while a couple of overstuffed chairs are positioned by the fireplace. A sleek black dining table stands in one corner, lit by a nearby chandelier, while another corner holds an industrial sideboard with drawers to store linens and serveware.

The Bathroom

This bathroom’s soft white walls and marble tile floor provide a sense of lightness and the large mirror reflects that. The black clawfoot tub not only has the soap and shampoo set within arms reach, but it also acts as a focal point in the space. The blue towel sets are reminiscent of the colors found in nature, providing balance to all the white.

Final Thoughts

While blue is a calming color, it’s not always what you want to see inside your home. Green and yellow are two cheery colors that are bound to perk up any room in your house. Though green can make some spaces seem like they’re cramped or uncomfortable, yellow can create a cheerful atmosphere and plenty of light with all its warmth. As you decorate, think about what kind of mood you want to set for yourself, then choose the colors accordingly!
