Design Do or Don’t? This week we’ll be discussing film posters and how to decorate with them. The idea behind framed film posters is that they add color and interest to your home or office walls, at the same time reminding you of some of your favorite films and their memorable scenes. However, they can also serve as eyesores if they’re not properly framed and hung, so we’ll talk about ways to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Why film posters
Framed film posters can be both an artistic addition to your space, and a cheaper alternative for home decor. The posters are easy to put up with just tape, and all you need is an empty wall. Plus, who doesn’t want a beautiful piece of art in their living room that only costs $10? They’re available on Etsy, Society6, and other sites. What’s the catch? Since these prints are so cheap, they may not be archival-quality prints. It is important to check what kind of ink was used and if it will fade over time. If the printing was done outside the US, you should also make sure it was printed according to US law (such as FSC paper).
If you choose framed posters that aren’t archival quality, they will probably have some sort of plastic covering them to protect them from fading in light.
Why get framed ones
Framed film posters are a great way to decorate your space. Choose from classics like E.T., Blade Runner, and Pulp Fiction, more recent additions like Drive and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, or even DIY in style with personal photographs of your favorite actors. No matter the occasion—from birthday parties to game day viewing parties—you’ll find something for you in our gallery. So what are you waiting for? Get creative and make your own! Simply take a photograph of your favorite actor and have it printed at any local printer. Frame it in an IKEA frame (and you’re set!).
Where to buy them
Some stores that sell framed film posters are Target, Barnes and Noble, and any of your local art stores. Keep in mind that some stores might have limited availability for what you’re looking for, so it’s always a good idea to check ahead before going. There are also many sites on the internet that sell framed movie posters such as Art-Collector and the Disney Store online store. Sometimes the prices can be better online so it is worth checking out if you’re looking for something specific!
Inspirational examples
Use framed film posters as a focal point in the living room, bedroom, study, game room, etc. They will liven up a space and offer ambiance to suit any need. Whether it’s nostalgia from your favorite movie growing up that you can reminisce about with friends, or whether it is simply a one-of-a-kind piece for decoration, framing film posters adds personality and character to any room. Once you find frames that fit both your style and budget, all you have to do is fill them with memorable moments from films such as A League of Their Own, Jurassic Park, The Royal Tenenbaums or Casablanca. These stunning examples of the genre will make any wall into an inviting surface for guests.
What you need in your home
A movie night at home is the perfect way to relax and enjoy a film. What makes it even better, though, is surrounding yourself with framed posters from your favorite movies. Choose your favorite scenes and favorite quotes from the movie and put them together in a beautiful frame that you can hang on your wall. This will show off all of your favorites parts of the film while also making for a great decoration for any room in the house!
