Lighting up Your Life: A Design Master Class on Getting the Perfect Lighting

Lighting is an aspect of interior design that many people overlook, but it can make all the difference in the world to how your home looks and feels. Not only does it brighten up dark corners, but it can completely change the feel of the room and set the mood as well. Read this lighting design master class to learn how to choose the right kinds of lighting fixtures to achieve the look you want, where to place them, and how to get the perfect light quality so your home will be just as beautiful as you intend it to be.

Why lighting is important

There are three types of light sources, incandescent, fluorescent, and LED. Each of these types has its pros and cons depending on your needs. Fluorescent lights offer a warm glow that helps save energy costs, but they’re less durable than LEDs and cannot be used in wet or moist environments.

The differences between lighting types

It can be overwhelming to decide how to illuminate your space, but it all comes down to which type of lighting you’re going to use. Here are some general guidelines and tips that might help you make a decision.

Common types of lighting include ambient light (a type of soft light) and task lighting (a more directed light), and both should be incorporated into your design.

Important things to consider before buying lights

A lot of people don’t realize how important lighting is for a room. What light fixtures you choose, as well as how many, can make or break a space. Here are a few things to consider before making your next lighting purchase. The amount of light in the room will affect how much electricity is used and also determine whether a single fixture or multiple fixtures should be installed. In general, rooms that require less ambient light during the day (like bedrooms) may want to install one fixture with lower wattage bulbs while rooms that require more ambient light during the day (like kitchens) may want to install multiple fixtures with higher wattage bulbs.

General tips for getting better lighting in your home

Lights in your home make a big difference in how it feels, from romantic and moody to bright and cheerful. The type of light you use can be used to accentuate any part of your design, so make sure you keep that in mind when deciding what fixture to go with. Here are some general tips for getting the perfect lighting setup:

– Think about where your light sources will be when you’re home by making a list of each room or area.

Must-know info before you start shopping

The first thing to do is decide what kind of lighting you’re looking for, or where in your home you want to install it. We usually divide our homes into three areas: Entry, Living Spaces, and Bedrooms.

The second step is to choose a primary lighting option. We recommend choosing from recessed lights, track lights, pendant lights, or flush-mount lights. Recessed lights are installed inside the ceiling and provide an even distribution of light. Track lights are also installed inside the ceiling but are connected to a power source outside of the room; they can be used as task lighting (great for reading) but not as general light sources.
